Press Releases

New York, NY – [March 2026]Spark Biomedical has announced an investment by Northwell Holdings, the strategic corporate capital and innovation arm of Northwell Health, New York’s largest health system, set to be used for the growth of OhmBody™, Spark’s dedicated women’s wellness division which was launched with an initial focus on menstrual wellness.

“Northwell Health’s investment represents a powerful validation of the work we’re doing at Spark Biomedical,” says Daniel Powell, Chief Executive Officer, Spark Biomedical. “This partnership will accelerate the commercialization of OhmBody™ and advance additional initiatives built on our Neural Tourniquet™ technology. Together, we’re bringing forward innovative, non-invasive neuromodulation solutions that have the potential to transform patient care on a national scale.”

OhmBody™ offers a novel non-hormonal approach to menstrual wellness, utilizing Transcutaneous Auricular Neurostimulation® (tAN) via a wearable earpiece targeting branches of the vagus and trigeminal nerves. Of the 167 million menstruating women and adolescents in the U.S., heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) affects an estimated 16 million, and can lead to anemia, impaired quality of life, and reduced occupational, educational or activity participation. OhmBody™ provides a safe, accessible, drug and hormone-free alternative to traditional approaches, as demonstrated in a recent clinical study published in Frontiers in Medicine.

“We are deeply committed to our collaboration with Spark and encouraged by the device’s capabilities to support menstrual health and the premenstrual syndrome use case, and we remain strongly optimistic about the meaningful benefits OhmBody™ can deliver for women’s health,” says Stacey E. Rosen, MD, FAHA, Executive Director of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health, Senior Vice President of Women’s Health at Northwell Health and Partners Council Professor of Women’s at the Zucker School of Medicine. “As part of our collaboration, Northwell Health participated in the company’s first‑in‑human clinical trial of the Neural Tourniquet, helping to establish a foundation for continued investigation and future advances in women’s health.”
