Building A Better Way Forward in Hemostasis

This open label, decentralized pilot trial is designed to determine the effects of transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) in reducing menstrual blood loss in women with heavy menstrual bleeding, either with or without a diagnosis of Type 1 von Willebrand Disease (VWD). Participants will receive tAN therapy twice daily during menstruation and a change in blood loss from a baseline menstruation with no stimulation will be measured. The primary objective is the mean reduction in menstrual blood loss as measured with a pictorial blood loss assessment chart. Other endpoints include improvement in perceived quality of life and improvement in pain during menstruation

The objective of this randomized controlled trial is to determine if tAN therapy can reduce the volume of blood lost during dialysis AV graft placement procedures. Blood loss and blood markers will be measured before and during the procedure to measure the effect of the therapy. Surgery time and time to hemostasis will also be measured.

This study is designed as a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, single-center research study in which healthy adults will be randomized 1:1 into one of two experimental groups, to receive transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) targeting either the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) or tAN, which targets the ABVN and the auriculotemporal nerve (ATN). Blood biomarkers (local and systemic) will be measured before and at several timepoints after stimulation to measure the molecular and cellular effects of the device.

This blinded, prospective, randomized control trial is designed to investigate the impact of transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) on blood loss during surgery in patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is an important procedure for controlling a variety of sinus disease. Given the proximity to the brain and vascularity of tissues, good visualization is paramount. Intraoperative bleeding may obscure the view of the surgeon. In this study, the investigators will use a tAN to determine its effects on decreased perioperative blood loss to determine if it could lead to better surgical conditions during the surgery.
